Junior Roller Derby (skaters aged under 18 years old)
At Dead End Derby, we recognized the growing interest among our young supporters to participate in roller derby. To meet this need, we established our Junior Roller Derby Team in early 2017, open to girls and boys aged 8 and above.
Training is held once a week on Sundays at the Celebration Sports Stadium, where coached sessions focus on developing skating skills through engaging games and drills, alongside learning the rules and nuances of junior roller derby.
Our aim is to provide a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment for all participants.
We also offer Mini Skate and Learn to Skate sessions for those aged 5 and above.
Junior Roller Derby is a non-contact version of roller derby and has its own rules (visit http://www.juniorrollerderby.org/).
In 2023 members of our junior team were selected for the Team New Zealand Junior Roller Derby squad and travelled to France to participate in the Junior Roller Derby World Cup.
In 2024, Dead End Derby skaters and junior coaches Dee Generate and Scary Cola are also on the coaching team of Team NZ Junior Roller Derby. Again, we have a number of our members who are on the training squad and are vying for a place in the 2025 Team NZ junior roller derby team to play in the Junior Roller Derby World Cup to be held in Australia.
