Southern SmashUp is Back!

Back for our third year, the Southern Smashup is the ultimate one-day roller derby event, hosted by Dead End Derby, Christchurch Roller Derby.

6 games of roller derby throughout the day, starting with 4 games of an ultimate mixed scrimmage, beginning at 9:30am.

We take 60 players from around the country who get 'smashed up' into different teams... for each game, so no game/team will be the same.

We are also hosting a junior roller derby game to showcase our up and coming Under 18 skaters.

The tournament finishes with a final game of our very own Dead End Derby Death Stars going head to head against the 'Smash Stars' invitational team at 6:30pm.

Check out the Facebook Event page for more details and to keep updated with latest developments!

MAY '19

What a way to start the season! On May 11th, LDR took on Hellmilton’s Raggedy Angst in their season opener in Christchurch - and took the win 187-61! Pleased with the win, the team now turns it focus towards Sulphur City and their annual Slam Rock event in Rotorua (click here for more info).

The Death Stars are in preparation for the upcoming Royal Rumble tournament on the Gold Coast. Good luck ladies!

APRIL '19

After a break over the summer months, DED is back and ready for the 2019 season! Lots of exciting things happening in the league right now, from new transfer skaters to our Death Stars competing in Australia later on in the year. We will be kicking things off with an exhibition bout, with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Come see Team Alice take on Team Red Queen on March 30th at Cowles Stadium, in what will no doubt be the start of a great year!

SEPTEMBER '18

In a stunning season closer for the Living Dead Rollers, they faced off against the Richter City Convicts in Wellington. They fought hard against their opponents, having only ten skaters on their bench and came away with the result, beating the Convicts by nearly 300 points! Final score 338-59 to LDR. What a way to finish up an undefeated season!

The Death Stars have been training hard for the upcoming Top 10 finals, being hosted by DED on the weekend of 13/14 October. See our Facebook page for more information!

AUGUST '18

Off the back of a successful trip to Northland, LDR took part in the annual War of the Wheels tournament in Tauranga this past weekend. After going undefeated in all three pool games, the Living Dead Rollers snatched the win from the Whenua Fatales in the final to be named 2018 War of the Wheels Champions!

JUNE '18

On the 16th of June our DED Death Stars (formally All Stars) played two big back to back games in Napier as part of the New Zealand Derby Top 10 Champs. Both the Moana Salty Rollers and the Bay City Roller Iron Maidens put up a big fight but in the end we took the win on both games.

The Living Dead Rollers have been training hard ready to take on the Northland Nightmares on Saturday 30th in Whangarei. Good luck ladies!

Junior Roller Derby has been going from strength to strength with the juniors numbers increasing and on top of training they have also been involved in demonstrations at events that the league has gone along to.

Due to popular demand we now have a Baby Roller Derby skating program. Baby Derby is for children aged between 4 and 7 years old with the sessions made up of games, stories and some fun skating. This is scheduled to start in Spring 2018.

MARCH '18

We had our first game of the year on the 24th of March! We celebrated our 10th anniversary with an Expo Bout - 1970's vs 2000's. Thanks to everyone who came and made it a great night!

Our freshmeat intake has started- you can now come along to a session on the first Sunday of each month, and we'll teach you the basics of being a roller girl!

FEBRUARY '18

Great job to our skaters who represented New Zealand at the Roller Derby World Cup over in Manchester, UK this past weekend, Evil K. Neevil and Maggie Mayhem. Team Aotearoa came away ranked 10th in the world!

OCTOBER '17

The All Stars headed to Wellington to participate in Quake, Battle and Roll. After playing 4 games, and winning them all, they came home victorious as the champions of the tournament. Great job, ladies!
